This Gala and Auction is hosted by three Trinity County organizations.
This collaborative effort exemplifies the community strength that shines in our County.

Rotary Club of Weaverville and Weaverville Rotary Scholarship Foundation

The Weaverville Rotary Club is a local service organization that is part of Rotary International. The purpose of Rotary is to bring together business and community leaders in order to provide community and humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all professions and vocations, and advance goodwill and peace around the world. It is a secular organization open to all people regardless of race, color, creed, religion, gender, or political preference, and its primary motto is “Service Above Self.”

Rotary International is the largest youth exchange program in the world. It has also partnered with the World Health Organization to eradicate polio and is very close to that international goal. The Weaverville Rotary Club supports these unique and very successful global endeavors, but it primarily works on projects and programs that more directly benefit our local community.

Our Club has traditionally focused on supporting local youth programs, such as sponsoring youth leadership development at Camp Royal and providing summer camp opportunities for at-risk children at Camp Trinity, each at Bar 717 Ranch. It also funds and awards, through the Weaverville Rotary Scholarship Foundation, numerous annual Trinity High School vocational and academic scholarships. Weaverville Rotary strongly supports senior citizen programs and projects such as the recent Rotary funded remodel of the Trinity Hospital Skilled Nursing facility as well.

Weaverville Rotary meets every Thursday at noon, at the Trinity Alps Golf Course Restaurant for lunch. We then share information of community interest, discuss the status of sponsored community projects and programs, and enjoy membership comradery. For more information call 623-2200.

Soroptimist International of Trinity County

Soroptimist International of Trinity County was chartered in 1975, with the late Sharron Heryford as one of our founding members. Our local Club is part of an international service organization working to improve the lives of women and children, in our community and throughout the world, by supporting programs leading to social and economic empowerment.

Locally our Club participates in the signature Soroptimist scholarship – the Live Your Dream Award. This award assists women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills, and employment prospects.

In 2015 SITC transferred $4,578, which had been donated in memory of past SITC member Marla Schardin Peckinpah, to establish a scholarship administered by the Trinity Scholarship Foundation. The funds were the result of contributions from Marla’s family, co-workers, friends, and fundraising efforts of Soroptimist International of Trinity County. SITC plans to donate funds raised by the Gala to this Scholarship and the Scholarship in the name of Sharron Heryford.

SITC supports events in Trinity County such as the Children’s Festival, Girl Scouts, and for several years has provided holiday gift baskets for seniors.

Weaverville Lions Club

The Weaverville Lions were chartered in 1959, fifty-eight years ago. The club certainly models the Lion’s motto “We Serve”, and will, well into the future. They have been responsible for a large number of well known projects, and programs, in, and around the community.

They sponsor local Little League, and soccer teams, just to name a few of the youth activities supported. The Lions have provided Christmas Baskets to those in need for at least 30 years, and additionally have supported Thanksgiving Dinner efforts. We have cut, split, and delivered hundreds of firewood loads to those folks, and families in need, and have often paid utility bills for those in need with children.

As Lions are known as “Knights of the Blind”, we have provided free prescription glasses to those in need with a special emphasis on children. Our club also eye-screened over 400 school children already this year, and provided glasses when necessary.

One of our foundation programs is the Weaverville Lions Scholarship Program. We currently offer three $1,500 scholarships to deserving Trinity High School students, having done so for many years. We have had great success with the Lions Speaker Contest Program, and many of our students have excelled in that program.

Our largest fundraiser activity has been the Weaverville 4th of July Celebration. This program was well institutionalized many years ago and draws as many as 10,000 people to Weaverville for the myriad of festivities. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Lions, an international club founded in 1917 by businessman, Melvin Jones. Our club is doing a Lions Legacy Project, a major revamping of the Cookshack in Lowden Park to celebrate the 100th year of Lions everywhere. We serve.
